PNW Birthday Celebration

It’s Toni’s birthday today, and we’re hopping in her honor! As the hostess of the celebration, I put together a festive mood board, a mix of fire-crackin’, jewel-toned glitz, glam, boho-chic, and retro vibes!

I had so many ideas… I mean look at this board! But the main image that kept popping out initially was the red & blue high rise, so I started there, stenciling a dotted background with MFT Persimmon hybrid ink and blue Distress ink using Dot Fade from Tim Holtz.

Thinking of Toni, and her love of mermaids and sea-focused designs, I proceeded with Hero Arts Layering whale. I love that it’s a humpback because we had one visit us in early June and it was so exciting because we don’t have them pass through all that often. He was literally in my backyard! So that makes this PNW Birthday card even more PNW!!

The stenciled background was much more interesting cut & reassembled from Avery Elle’s Petal frame. The flower of the petals echo water droplets and the blue/white/black dress in mood board.

The mermaid was stamped with teal pigment ink and then hest embossed with Ranger verdigris powder, so it echos the teal room and gilded necklaces.

The whale’s party hat is blue and a red/orange combo. I love how it reflects the smaller dots and the colors of the 70s model. I worked in the stars on her hat in my sequin strand.

The sequin strand is also inspired by the necklaces in the mood board.

My lighting conditions were about as low visiblity as the ocean deep, so it was difficult to capure the inner card, but I finished it off with some blue waves washi.

Well, Toni I hope your day goes swimmingly and you’re feeling whaley loved (sorry, had to)! Wishing you an ocean if inspiration and good times this year!

Please join in the fun, and hop along with the rest of my friends. Here’s the full line up! And don’t forget to wish Toni a happy day!

PNW Birthday Buddies: Part Deux

PNW Birthday Buddies 1-1

Bold! Beautiful! Bright!

These words come to mind when I think of Ms. Kimberly Weiner! She is a bundle of fun energy and we have some great talks and laughs, especially when we carpool and craft! She is super supportive and someone you can reach out to when in need!  I am glad to call her a friend!

Of course, today is her birthday and we’re hopping here in the PNW!  Lisa is our hostess, and you can head over to her site for the full hop listing!

A couple weeks ago, Kimberly taught her class at Impress Cards and Crafts and a few of us joined in the fun. Of course, who can leave that store empty-handed?

I scored some great new offerings, among which is the Flora and Fauna Llama birthday die! Their dies and stamps are really cool; a fun addition to the quirky Savvy line.
So we were supposed to CASE one of Kimberly’s cards as part of our hop, and I couldn’t believe she had just posted one to IG featuring the Llama stamp set by Flora & Fauna. Great, creative minds, synchronicity, and all that! Go check it out at her IG, as it’s not on her blog.

This was one of her cards I had in mind, though, in addition to the Llama!

And here’s my card for her!

Kimberly had just been talking about this flag die the other week, so I knew I wanted to use it as the backdrop.  It’s Spellbinders Floral Ribbon Threader, which reminds me of the Mexican folk art papel picado banners.  I have used them to frame my sugar skulls dies for Dia de los Muertos.

Anyway, I cut two of the banners and adhered their wrong sides, so I can write on the back, like a postcard.

The llama was cut from both Fun Foam/Stick-It Adhesive and #100 Ellen Huston linen paper.  I don’t use my Flower Soft much (and as a result, I don’t use the special glue for the Flower Soft, so the glue was all dried up!).  I improvised with Diamond Glaze, but it didn’t give the tacky dimension that the other glue does.  So I layered up the fine white and pink Flower Soft.

The yellow cording has wire inside, so it creates a really fun 3-D balloon string, and can be shaped a million and one ways!  I cut the balloon from hand-colored watercolored paper and the Stick-it/Fun Foam.  I embellished with some blue Stickles and then pieces of the ribbon tie had come off when cutting the ribbon, and I thought they looked awesome, so I let them fall and dry on the balloon.

The sentiment, which I didn’t anticipate ahead of time, ended up fitting perfectly on the banner!  I knew I wanted to use one of the Kaisercraft bold subway sentiments, and this was absolutely fitting!

Finally, Neat and Tangled has a new Envelope/doily die that is only available from their site (not sold in other stores/online stores).  I love it’s design and versatility, and it works well with the Mexican vibe of this card.  It was cut from vellum and then wrapped with some fringe ribbon (from Target!).

Alright, Kimberly!  You better have a smashing birthday (this llama could serve as a pinata as well!).  And the rest of you better hip-hop to the next stop, which is Kimberly’s blog, and make sure to wish her a fabulous year ahead and check out her amazing work! PNW Birthday Buddies 1-1

Laura, I am sorry that the sun is not shining for you in the PNW (what else is new), I am sorry that Mercury is in retrograde (thus all my uploading woes), and thus I do apologize for being so unfashionably late. All that being said, I sure hope you have had a wonderful birthday weekend, and caught some sunny spring splendor Friday or late yesterday!  What a wonderful time of the year for a birthday when everything is bursting to life!

This card was inspired by the season and earth day!  I can’t wait to get digging in the dirt and my containers, as the front of the house is looking like a wasteland after the winter!

I’ve had this printed acetate from Studio Calico for awhile now and kept wanting to use it, but not really feeling inspired to.  Sometimes just spending time with your stash, organizing, reminding yourself of forgotten dies, and sifting through the bits and bobs leads to inspiration.  This is a a combo of new and old, and features a few different techniques.

For example, the hummingbird set from Hero Arts is brand new; I love these dies so much–you’ll be seeing more of this and the other bird soon.  I adhered some washi from a great Michael’s collection to some cardstock and then die cut.  I like this technique and it is a great way to create unique papers and use up washi, especially that which is getting older and losing its stick.

The sentiment from Papertrey Ink is adhered below the acetate.  Because anything will show under the acetate, adhering it itself is tricky, so glue dots were used under the die cuts.

The little Wellie is from an older My Creative Time die set.  The top layer of the boot is cut from hand-colored Ranger glossy paper using a combo of orange, pink and yellow alcohol inks.

I watercolored with brushos, available at The Heart Desires, and cut that paper with the new Waffle Flower leafy dies.   The new Waffle Flower collection looks so good with Savvy dies, and so I united the Savvy floral set here.

The inside is finished with the Michael’s washi set.

I’m the last stop on the hop, so make sure to head over to Laura’s blog and check out her recent work and wish her a happy birthday!

If you want to start at the beginning, head over to Tonya’s blog, our hostess for the event!

Many blessings to you Laura and your new year!

Birthday Buddies Back Again!

Hey Lisa!  Happy Birthday girl!  I hope today finds you feeling fabulous, and I sure hope to celebrate with you in person this Saturday!  The birthday buddies have gathered again here and will do so in person this weekend!  So much to celebrate in December!

And if you’ve got a birthday in December, well, it’s only fitting you get a birthday card that suits the season– and a sentiment that reminds you not to get too upset by the little things, like age and birthdays, and upside down trees!

2016-12-05-08.33.11-1_wm.jpg.jpg

Oh, Miss Utinni, what have you done?  This was supposed to be Lisa’s birthday tree!!

2016-12-05-08.28.42-1_wm.jpg.jpg

Oh, I see how you work– you think you can just try and hide the tree… very clever.  Such deeds cannot be so easily undone, Miss Utinni.  Looks like the ornaments are all intact.

2016-12-05-08.37.08-1_wm.jpg.jpg

That’s better.  At least now, Lisa can see just how lovely her ombre pink birthday tree is right-side up, even without all the ornaments.

Now, Lisa is a consumate copic colorer, so I did my best to honor her skills with my copic-colored Miss Utinni, her hat and ornaments!

2016-12-05-08.53.37-1-01.jpeg.jpg

Oh look at that sweet face– How can you even get mad at that?  Don’t you love how the sentiment’s stars work with the striped b/w paper?

2016-12-05-08.43.03-1_wm.jpg.jpg

Look at those delicious ornaments, stamped with masking, copic colored and then heat embossed using Versafine Champagne ink and some sparkly embossing powder.  A technique I used here in two of my favorite holiday cards (from Christmas 2013, yikes!!).

Close-up of the baubles and the ombre tree that was stamped in three different pinks, then covered with Versafine Champagne and clear embossing powder, then heat set for a shiny effect.  Miss Utinni’s hat has a bit of ice-blue Stickles and was fussy cut, then adhered.

The retro papers are from Snow Fun collection by Carta Bella.  The flag, cat, ornaments and sentiment are all from Avery Elle.  All available at The Heart Desires.

And psssst… I may be hinting at our upcoming challenge starting 12/7!

Here’s a list of the participating birthday buddies!  You’re off to Lenae, next!

BIRTHDAY GIRL: Lisa

Thanks for celebrating with us today, and make sure to wish Lisa a happy birthday!

P.S. This card was indeed inspired by my naughty little grrl, Ms. Utinni, aka “We are siamese if we please…” who has pulled over my new fake tree, and has since removed every ornament from it.  This Avery Elle stamp set was made for her, I am convinced of it!

Bright Birthday

Happy Birthday, Lenae! Love this graphic Kimberly picked for Lenae, as she spent the last month, and then some, in Hawaii. I lived vicariously through her gorgeous pictures, and can’t wait to finally catch up with this girl soon IRL, as it’s been far too long.

I hope today brings her some sun (after a rainy, cold PNW weekend so far) and fond reflections on her past year with an eye on all that is to come!

Won’t you join me in wishing a bright, creative, lovely lady a day that is just the same?!

Hop along with us for inspiration and fun!

I actually made this card for Lenae specifically back in April!!! Early for once! 😉

Digi 1″ flair made with epoxy clear sticker. Up cycled coffee bag cottage leaf die.

Tonya sent me some goodies from The Heart Desires shop, including the new Concord & 9th Cake Stamp. So I figured I’d do it up for our hop, tropical style, coloring it with Prismas and Gamsol.

She also has the fab We R Memory Keepers Next Level embossing folders, like this pillow design. She has Maggie Holmes’awesome Bloom paper too.

Don’t you love how the little bird is popping up behind the cake? I deliberately cut and positioned the panel, and punched a hole on the banner, threading the sequin strand behind.

The sentiment is cut from Rose Gold metalic paper from Bazzill.

Hope you have lots of cake, Lenae, and enjoy your hop!
