Birthday Buddies Back Again!

wp-1481000583486.jpg

Hey Lisa!  Happy Birthday girl!  I hope today finds you feeling fabulous, and I sure hope to celebrate with you in person this Saturday!  The birthday buddies have gathered again here and will do so in person this weekend!  So much to celebrate in December!

And if you’ve got a birthday in December, well, it’s only fitting you get a birthday card that suits the season– and a sentiment that reminds you not to get too upset by the little things, like age and birthdays, and upside down trees!

2016-12-05-08.33.11-1_wm.jpg.jpg

Oh, Miss Utinni, what have you done?  This was supposed to be Lisa’s birthday tree!!

2016-12-05-08.28.42-1_wm.jpg.jpg

Oh, I see how you work– you think you can just try and hide the tree… very clever.  Such deeds cannot be so easily undone, Miss Utinni.  Looks like the ornaments are all intact.

2016-12-05-08.37.08-1_wm.jpg.jpg

That’s better.  At least now, Lisa can see just how lovely her ombre pink birthday tree is right-side up, even without all the ornaments.

Now, Lisa is a consumate copic colorer, so I did my best to honor her skills with my copic-colored Miss Utinni, her hat and ornaments!

2016-12-05-08.53.37-1-01.jpeg.jpg

Oh look at that sweet face– How can you even get mad at that?  Don’t you love how the sentiment’s stars work with the striped b/w paper?

2016-12-05-08.43.03-1_wm.jpg.jpg

Look at those delicious ornaments, stamped with masking, copic colored and then heat embossed using Versafine Champagne ink and some sparkly embossing powder.  A technique I used here in two of my favorite holiday cards (from Christmas 2013, yikes!!).

Close-up of the baubles and the ombre tree that was stamped in three different pinks, then covered with Versafine Champagne and clear embossing powder, then heat set for a shiny effect.  Miss Utinni’s hat has a bit of ice-blue Stickles and was fussy cut, then adhered.

The retro papers are from Snow Fun collection by Carta Bella.  The flag, cat, ornaments and sentiment are all from Avery Elle.  All available at The Heart Desires.

And psssst… I may be hinting at our upcoming challenge starting 12/7!

Here’s a list of the participating birthday buddies!  You’re off to Lenae, next!

BIRTHDAY GIRL: Lisa

Thanks for celebrating with us today, and make sure to wish Lisa a happy birthday!

P.S. This card was indeed inspired by my naughty little grrl, Ms. Utinni, aka “We are siamese if we please…” who has pulled over my new fake tree, and has since removed every ornament from it.  This Avery Elle stamp set was made for her, I am convinced of it!

Animal Adorbs

2014-03-30 13.01.55

Despite my penchant for making up words, rhyming (“Stop that rhyming I mean it!”  “Anybody want a peanut?”), onomatopoeia, and truncated terms, when I first came in contact with “adorbs” I found it truly less than adorable.

Maybe it’s all the new life of spring, the countless cute pictures of critters I keep finding on Pinterest, or the two furry friends below, but suddenly I am seeing and singing “animal adorbs” everywhere I go!  (Yes, singing it; I make up jingles all the time).  It’s still pretty tongue-in-cheek, but adorbs is growing on me…

And these two are definitely something to sing about!

2014-03-30 13.03.32

I’ve had the tough guy for awhile, and featured him on a couple of cards you can see in my 2013 Gallery; the baby bunny is new to both of us! I couldn’t resist when I saw him on the shelf at Impress Stamps last weekend, and I couldn’t wait to get them together!

Here’s the whole card:

2014-03-30 13.01.55

2014-03-30 13.00.20

So the cat and bunny are from an awesome company, Catslife Press, out of Oregon.  You can order wood-mounted or unmounted stamps directly from them, or find a store near you on their locator page.  I’m crazy about cats and theirs are definitely adorables.

And what are they hoping the Easter Bunny will bring?

2014-03-30 13.05.42

All three of these stamps are from Rosie’s Roadshow.  Tiny times!!

I pulled out my Copics for everything but the carrot’s body; I used my Gelatos for that, as I don’t have a good orange Copic just yet.  Oranges and purples are what I have left to round out my collection.

My Copic skills were a bit rusty as I’ve not colored since December!  Tiny images are tricky, and I’ve some bleed.  Also, the camera has not captured the shading on the chick, egg or carrot very well.  My ombre effect on bunny’s shirt somewhat comes through!  But overall, I am pretty happy with how everyone turned out!

I am sure I’d be coloring better if I’d taken Sandy Allnock’s class at Impress on Wednesday night!  She rocks the Copics!  Stamp Nation is also featuring a month-long Copic tutorial with Some Odd Girl, so I am looking forward to learning what Kristy Dalman to offer!

2014-03-30 13.21.15

The stitched-lines notecard, speech bubbles and sentiment are from Lawn Fawn.  I finished off the back and inside (as usual!) with some washi.  I am featuring that great green paper from Hey Boy as seen in my last card and dots are from DIY Shoppe.

And speaking of tiny, adorable things I have an old card from the summer I never photographed and put into the gallery.

2014-03-30 13.34.31

The camera is from Stampendous, I believe.  I stamped, glossed, adhered to yellow cardstock and fussy cut.  The papers are from Amy Tangerine and Amuse Studio; camera paper is adhered with some die cut Shape and Tape.  I created the banner and inside sentiment on the computer.

That’s all for me this evening!  I will be back later in the week with more animal-themed goodies, as well as some tips and techniques.  So check back soon!

I hope your week is filled with all kinds of cuteness!

Holiday Gift Bags

Make-It Monday # 142 Decorated Kraft Bags

Happy December, all! I am excited to share the kraft gift bags I made for the Papertrey Ink challenge this week.  This was a really inspiring challenge as the possibilities are endless and playing around with ideas on little kraft bags is a great way to experiment, since the bags are so inexpensive.  Once I got started, I could barely stop!

I am going to start with my favorites and explain my process, as I discovered a really cool technique somewhat by accident!

First up, Twinkle.

IMG_20131201_122252

As you can see, I used the light bulbs from Papertrey Ink’s Come All Ye Faithful additions set.  I just love these and want to use them all the time!  Labor intensive, but worth it!

So I first sponged Unicorn White ink onto the Crafter’s Workshop birch trees stencil.  Then heat set.  Next I stamped all the lights, and heat set again.  Then I had a bright idea 🙂 I had earlier experimented with stamping Versamark Dazzle directly on my embossing, covered with clear embossing powder and heat set.  You can see these cards here.  I wanted to create a sparkly winter forest, so I covered the bag with Versamark Dazzle in Champagne; then added Ranger Sticky embossing powder, heat set and sprinkled with white glitter.  Ta-da!

IMG_20131201_122335

The effect reminds me of sugar-coated gumdrops and I was thrilled.  I will be using this technique on cards and tags this season for sure!  I finished it off with a sentiment stamped in blue Brilliance Ink from Amuse Studio’s Hello December set, which I will feature in my next post!

Next up, Candy Jar!

IMG_20131201_122046

Here I have used Papertrey Ink’s fabulous Tag Sale #8 die as the focal point.  Inside, I have placed my little mason jar from Poppystamps, and filled it with candies from Lawn Fawn’s Sweet Christmas set.  The bag’s background was stamped with the Versamark Dazzle and then covered with Bridal embossing powder, which I love and have had forever, from Personal Stamp Exchange.

IMG_20131201_122105

For all the candies, I masked and stamped each one with Tuxedo Black ink so they would overlap.  Then I colored with Copics.  I heat set and then covered with Versamark Dazzle and clear embossing powder and heat set for a glossy sheen which you can see in the first  and last photo.  Pretty sweet, don’t you think?

IMG_20131201_122140

Bag #3: Delicate Doily Snowflake

IMG_20131201_122823

This bag was stenciled with Crafter’s Workshop doily in Unicorn White and covered with bridal embossing powder.  The little button says “sweet” and I thought it was a perfect embellishment for the tag.  I love Papertrey Ink’s font for the “joy” sentiment, which is from the Mega Mixed Messages set.  The green ribbon is covered with doily images that reflect the bag, and instead of using traditional red and white, I opted for juicy, bright pastels.  It doesn’t quite represent here, but I used Brilliance Ink in red-gold, which is very iridescent and matches the pink sparkly ribbon.

IMG_20131201_122835

Bag #4: More Joy

IMG_20131201_122646

I embossed a few of my kraft bags which really added to the basic brown bag.  After embossing, I again covered with Versamark Dazzle, then covered with bridal embossing powder for this shimmery, iridescent quality.

IMG_20131201_122659

I used Papertrey Ink’s Boutique Borders die and their Joy sentiment again.  I hand cut some flags from my snowy-white sparkle paper and adhered with silver sparkle brads.

Bag #5: Rustic Winter Wreath

IMG_20131201_123053

I just LOVE this delicate wreath stamp from Memory Box.  It is so versatile and can be used for any season.  For this bag, I again embossed it with Tim Holtz’s wood-grain embossing folder.  Then I stamped the image with Unicorn White, and embossed with detail white powder from Stampendous.  Here you can see the embossing folder detail and glossing effect of the wreath.

IMG_20131201_123127

Instead of using Papertrey Ink’s Fillable Frames #4 die as a label, I folded it and used as a closure!  Way to re-purpose!  I love seeing products in a new light.

IMG_20131201_123113

The sentiment is from Waltzingmouse Stamps Halloween Party set.

Whew!  Are you ready for just 2 more?  Okay, here they are!

Bag #6: Fa-La-La-La-La!

IMG_20131201_122511

Here I featured Papertrey Ink’s Come All Ye Faithful Additions Set and keeping with the musical theme, added some die-cut  silver bells from Memory Box.

Bag #7: Sweet Swag!

IMG_20131201_123016

Last, but not, least (though it is my least favorite of the bunch), is my sweet swag bag, featuring Paper Trey Ink’s Come All Ye Faithful Additions sentiment.  I used the Memento Brilliance inks for iridescent shine. Ribbons are from American Crafts.  The circle tag can hold a sentiment or someone’s name.

IMG_20131201_122948

So I am more than half-way there for 12 days of Christmas treats!

Thanks so much for stopping by–I hope my creations sweetened your day!  Comment or email if you would like to know more about my techniques.  I love hearing from you and connecting!

Now I think it’s time for a few sweets myself–Almond Roca, anyone?  While you are indulging, head over to Nichole’s blog for some serious eye-candy!

Newton’s Nook Inky Paws Challenge

IMG_20131105_110438.681

A Happy Harvest

Good afternoon!  I am back with an entry for the challenge over at Newton’s Nook!  I was so excited to receive my new stamps and keep working on my Copic skills last week and their challenge inspired me to create this card…

IMG_20131105_110226.737

Based on this sketch…

The little cat is from their Newton’s Antics set and the wagon and leaves are from their Wagon of Wishes set.  I wanted to have the little cat peeking over the leaves, so what I did was extend his shoulders a bit beyond the stamp.

IMG_20131105_110438.681

I used a variety papers, including: Gina K. Cocoa heavyweight for the base, Ellen’s Essentials Woodgrain, and a selection of papers from October Afternoon.  The sparkly twine from May Arts has been finding its way onto many cards as it is so perfect for just a little embellishment.

IMG_20131105_110947.725

I die cut some natural paper for the inside and used Spellbinders Postage Dies set for the sentiment background.  The sentiment is from Newton’s Nook Wagon of Wishes!

IMG_20131105_110704.163

Signature washi tape from American Crafts finishes off the back!  I am printing off more Pinned & Penned labels as I type this soon to affixed to the back!

IMG_20131105_110743.750

I had hoped to get one more card based on this sketch finished for the challenge, but it’s looking like I won’t make the deadline.  It is a great sketch and I just love Newton’s Nook products.  Head over the their blog and shop to see what kind of antics are going on!

Happy Harvesting!

Little Gray Cat: Simon Says Stamp Challenge

IMG_20131103_171406.401

A Super Cute Thank You

Since Simon Says Stamp has an Anything Goes challenge this week, and I just completed this card, I am going to play along with them.  And boy are there a lot of folks playing this week–over 800!!  That’s a lot of cards and creativity!  The Designer Spotlight cards are pretty awesome! Check them out!

Simon Says Stamp

Now, look at this little guy!!  Here’s another cat card I created for a veterinarian thank you.  I think this is the one I will send to our vet since this little tough guy is like my Leo–a little devil, but oh so cute!!

I used Copics COO, C2 & C4, as well as R01, R14 and R17, Memento Tuxedo Black and a light gray ink from Fresh Ink.

The die is from Paper Smootches, as well as the sentiment.

I have used this pop out technique on other cards, and like the effect, though I wasn’t as impressed with how the rectangle turned out.  I like the circle pop out better, which you can see here.

Here’s a close-up of my feline friend:

Thanks for checking out my work and make sure to head over to Simon Says Stamp for great inspiration and products!!

Whew, that’s a lot of cats for today!  And a lot of posts–a super lot!   That extra hour we gained really helped me today!

You can never have enough cats…or enough stamps….or enough crafting time!

This little guy will be popping up in the next post, so stop back soon!
